Contrast - Modernism vs traditional building
May 10th, 2008, by Maarten, filed under observationsWhen I visited Malmo in Sweden recently I found an interesting contrast in a very nice bicycle street I walked through. The street has some traditional buildings and some modernistic buildings at it. The traditional buildings contain different kind of shops and contribute to the streets liveliness. The modernistic buildings have a totally different relation to the street. They are separated from the street with bushes, don’t have any entrances at it and mostly have blind walls at the ground floor. They do however from the balconies look over the street. It is not definitely necessary to become judgmental about this difference, but it is very interesting to see the difference in goal and effect, of two approaches, in one street in such a clear way.
